A Southern TAS hospital requires a Registrar/PHO in Internal Medicine to work Night shifts; commencement 3 February 2020 to 30 June 2020. Shifts are Nights on followed by rest days, and will require more than one Locum. Preference would be for a locum to cover the full period.
Classification: Registrar – PGY 4 or above
Unit: General Medicine
Description: The Department of General Medicine accepts on average 13-15 admissions a day through the Emergency Department. The night staff are responsible for admitting (assessment and management) patients to General Medicine and also the subspecialties, along with the overnight RMO. The team is also responsible for the management of deteriorating patients on the wards (medical and surgical) including MET calls and Code Blue. The MET team is supported by ICU registrars.
Dates required: 3 February 2020 to 30 June 2020
Shifts: Roster covering 7 x nights shifts, start time 2130 (9.30pm) to 0830 (08.30am) = 11-hour shifts.
Rest days will be provided after each block of night shifts
On Call : N/A
Support/Supervision: One other medical registrar will be rostered for each night shift in order to spread the workload between the two; in addition, there is a medical resident and intern rostered overnight for support of all admitted medical patients. The MET team is supported by ICU registrar on site, and ICU is available for acutely unwell patients. The General Medicine Department rosters one consultant on-call 24 hours a day (daily roster) who is available after hours for support and advise. Handover twice a day (registrar lead at 2130 and consultant-lead at 0800) for supported handovers.
Rate: Dependant on experience hourly rate $140
