The Position
Skilled Medical have an exciting career opportunity for a Paediatric Registrar (Advanced) for a 6 month fixed term placement commencing June 2020 in New Zealand's South Island. Based in the outpatient department with the emphasis of the work being ambulatory paediatrics, but also acute work, both general and neonatal, supporting 2-3 house surgeons. Although based in the hospital, every 4 weeks there is an Outpatient clinic and overnight call at the referral hospital. Teaching duties will include house surgeons, Trainee Interns from Christchurch, medical students from Wellington and many different allied health professional groups.
Health Service
This public hospital has 147 beds and services a population of 90,000 people with 1200 births a year. It is a secondary level hospital with a dedicated children's ward, outpatient department, developmental therapy services, level II newborn unit and community paediatric services. Visiting tertiary specialist clinics occur in neurology, genetics, cardiology, paediatric surgery, urology and cystic fibrosis. The Paediatric department has a strong emphasis on forging and maintaining community links, across the region, where a Paediatric ward and integrated Special Care Baby Unit provide support to a population of 45,000 people, and 550 births per year.

Essential Criteria
Doctors must hold MCNZ or AHPRA registration, or eligible for registration in New Zealand via the competent authority pathway. Applicants should have completed basic training (paediatrics) and be working as an advanced trainee, ideally in the last 1-2 years of advanced training.
