DEPT INFORMATION:
The hospital is a 16 bed sub-acute rehabilitation unit which provides comprehensive
inpatient adult rehabilitation services to patients with stroke, chronic spinal injury, amputee, orthopaedic case mix ranging from multi-trauma to elective/ traumatic joint replacement, neurological rehab, deconditioning following medical/surgical illness.
The rehabilitation team comprises of experienced physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech
therapist, dietician, social worker, allied health assistants. The rehabilitation program is established with patient oriented SMART goals under supervision of a rehabilitation physician.
SRMO ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES/SUPERVISION:
Supervision:
Supervision is provided by Rehabilitation Physician 3 days a week and would require to work unsupervised on 1 -2 days a week. SRMO is able to contact specialist on phone for any urgent queries.
Challenges:
• Requires to be able to work in a complex environment with strict deadlines.
• Requires strong working relationship in a multi-disciplinary team environment
• Requires understanding and commitment to comply with missions and goals of the institution
Roles / Responsibilities:
• Able to review and order pathology, radiology, medical documentation, carry out physical
examination, identify deteriorating patient (on daily bases) and refer to acute medical team, to
emergency (if required) and inform consultant.
• Excellent in medical ward round documentation, do ward round with /without specialist, complete
discharge summaries in time, complete rehabilitation consults in 24 hours of referrals (in Base hospital which is approximate 15 min drive from location), formulate rehabilitation plan in
consult with specialist.
• Ability to work independently within a complex clinical environment.
• Review patients in outpatient setting under direct supervision of specialist and write clinic letters in timely manner.
• Able to carry out phlebotomy, blood cultures, interpret ECG, read radiology and should possess
basic life support management skills.
• There is phlebotomist who comes from Base Hospital to perform phlebotomy. Doctor may
require to carry out relevant bloods and order pathology/ radiology or any other relevant
investigation requested by specialist.
Exercise independent judgement, initiate and has problem solving skills, obtain phone advice from
medical team at Base hospital and other medical/ surgical specialist/ fellow advice from
main referral hospital in consultation with rehabilitation
specialist.
ONCALL SHIFT INFORMATION:
• Able to be on call after hours and on weekend via phone.
• Oncall arrangement will be communicated at the commencement of work
• Performance monitoring:
• under supervision of rehabilitation specialist.
• Administratively reporting to the Lower Mid North Coast Sector Director of Clinical Services.
