A Western NSW hospital requires a Junior Medical Officer in Emergency Medicine/Wards

ED DAY SHIFT
1200hrs – 2200hrs 3-9 June inclusive

We are a small remote ED seeing between 50-70 presentations a day. The majority of our need for locums is outside of regular hours and all shifts will have a period where you are working solo in the ED or Hospital. All shifts require the ability for confident independent practice and management of most cases. The level of support is variable and outlined below.
We have around 20% paediatric presentations and are a designated Mental Health Facility. We are a referral hospital for RFDS and the only hospital for trauma in Far West NSW. We support training of students and junior doctors and your role may involve supervision of these two groups. We have surgical and medical SRMOs (registrar type role) but for the most part they are not rostered after hours and our ED staff are responsible for clerking and managing admitted patients and phone consultation with the admitting specialist. We always have a physician, surgeon, paediatrician, obstetrician, psychiatrist and anaesthetist on call for admissions, advice and assistance by way of attendance although these specialists are often locums themselves and variably orientated to our capacities, processes and expectations.
Our nursing staff are excellent and will provide a lot of direction and support to first timers and returning locums. We endeavour to provide a brief on site orientation to new locums although due to rostering and logistics this may not always be possible.
