- Level 3 role maternity service with a level 2 neonatal service
- The Unit itself is brand new, having opened in February 2023. There are two birthing suites, and three other “overnight” rooms. The Emergency Department is 10 metres away. There is an Operating Room nearby on the same floor (<50m)
- The Unit is staffed medically by GP Obstetricians. Only one of these is on call at a time. There is no other Obstetric medical staff. We manage generally low risk births, though women with low level complexity (mild to moderate PET, Gestational Diabetes without insulin requirement etc) are also managed. We perform augmentation and induction of labour beyond 37 weeks gestation. We are able to conduct VBAC, but do not induce or augment these patients. We perform assisted deliveries (vacuum and forceps), elective and emergency LSCS. There is an anaesthetic service.
